First off I will tell you all that I have my own version of Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps. I think his are great but mine are more towards worse case senerio.
BABY STEP 1: Baby Emergency fund of $2750.00 (This is a whole month worth of expenses)
BABY STEP 2: Pay off Student Loans
BABY STEP 3: Fully Funded Emergency Fun ($33,000 a whole years worth of expenses)
BABY STEP 4: Save for Land and building fund ($10-15k for land, and 100K for house)
BABY STEP 5: College fund for kids (333.32 montly)
BABY STEP 6: Fund seperate IRA’s for myself and wife
BABY STEP 7: Build wealth and GIVE
I think baby steps 4-6 are generally done at the same time anyway, so your plan looks pretty close to DR’s. I got hooked on him about a year ago, completely by accident (I clicked on a link about a couple who paid off a ton of debt using DR’s plan). It’s funny how one small thing like stumbling across an article on yahoo! can change your life.
